Korn will forever be linked with their spearheading of the so-called “nu metal” movement, a more accessible variation of metal that emphasized hooks and melodies over imposingly dense arrangements or screamed, unintelligible vocals. The band formed in the early part of the 1990s in Bakersfield, California, and originally consisted of five members: singer Jonathan Davis, bassist Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu, guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer, drummer David Silveria and guitarist Brian “Head” Welch. Korn made their breakthrough on 1998’s Follow the Leader. Though still working in a metal vein, Korn further emphasized hip-hop elements in their music – particularly with their rhythm section and keyboard sound effects – to produce a rap-rock amalgam of the two genres. In 2010, they released their ninth studio album, Korn III: Remember Who You Are. Looking to expand in new directions, Korn sought out electronic producers like Skrillex and Noisia, who helped them infuse their already heavy sound with pounding dubstep on their electronic-tinged tenth album, 2011's The Path of Totality. The Paradigm Shift appeared in October of 2013.
On their sixth full-length album Isolate and Medicate, multi-platinum alternative rock trio Seether strip their trademark melodic thrash to its core and deliver the most poignant, passionate, and powerful record of their illustrious career. With rigorous minimalism and maturity, chief songwriter Shaun Morgan, long one of rock’s most unheralded melodists, has become a composer of deep emotion and clear-eyed vulnerability. The band too has developed into one of rock’s most fearsome units, playing with precision, grit and authority, yet still light on their feet. After 15+ years of hardscrabble success, it’s evident that Seether felt like survival was not enough. They had something to prove with this new album and somewhere farther to go.
A band rife with contradictions, Sweden's Ghost (previously aka Ghost B.C.) preach extreme Satanic viewpoints over surprisingly lightweight heavy metal, and its members maintain a strict vow of anonymity, both on record and on-stage, where they obscure themselves under monks' cowls, except for their lead singer, whose skull-faced makeup, cardinal robes, miter and thurible reflect an anti-Pope, instead. As a result, the band's rare concerts come across like an occult ritual, and their 2010 debut album,Opus Eponymous, totally defied expectations with its surprisingly accessible melodic rock sound, reminiscent of '60s psychedelia, ‘70s doom, and ‘80s New Wave of British Heavy Metal.

Following the break-up of the band in 1996, members moved on to various other projects, most notably Bell who became the bassist for Oasis. In 2001, the band members were briefly reunited for a one-off performance for a television show. RIDE announced their second reunion in November 2014. Their debut album Nowhere has been named one of the greatest albums of the shoegazing genre.
Born during the rise of grunge and alternative rock, Collective Soul broke into mainstream popularity when they rose to international fame in 1993 with the rock anthem “Shine.” The multi-platinum quintet has been making music for two decades since then and has a catalog of #1 hits under their belts. Collective Soul helped shape and define alternative rock with lots of guitars and attitude. The platinum-selling rock band is readying for the Fall 2015 release of their long-awaited ninth album, See What You Started by Continuing, followed by a tour to celebrate the band’s 21st birthday. Ed Roland says the band took some time off, came back energized about what they are and always have been: a rock band. “This is the best and most rocking album we’ve done. It’s one of those, ‘just sit back and rock’ records.”
